I haven't highlighted a designer in awhile. sad.

Well I am DROOLING over this one! Kike Besada is from Spain but living and working in New York right now. I am head-over-heels for his gritty/collage type style!

By the way- I will post a craft soon. I've been too busy swimming, reading, and barbecuing. Blame it on the season. I'm hoping you have been up to similar shenanigans too!

Imagination Is The Foundation Of Reality

Do you like getting mail? Do you like getting cool little treasures just because? I sure do! I just found out about a super cool site called Lost Crates that does exactly that. They recently sent my sister her own special box of goodies. She let me have this amazing Simple Diary from it. I LOVE it! Each page asks you to explain your day or life experiences in a quirky/entertaining way.

Each page also has a random short statement in red that always either brings a smile to my face or makes me ponder for a moment. The typography is also obviously beautiful which makes my little designer heart sing!

I'm contemplating purchasing a "crate" myself even though they are a little pricey. I think it would make a great fun/original gift too! All I know is I am giddy filling out this newly acquired treasure. Thanks Lyndsey!

Classic Neon

We're back from Sun Valley! The trip was great! And the road trip there was awesome too. We drove through a bunch of po-dunk little towns in the middle of no-where and I found these great old neon signs! I LOVE THEM! The typography is so interesting and classic. I hope you like them too!

Old Books

This last weekend I drove down to Utah to see family and I stayed at my Grandparents house. While I was there I discovered their extensive collection of old books. Most of them are books about plants and farming from the late forties and early fifties because that was when my Grandfather studied Agricultural Education at UCDavis. I love books from this era because they were manufactured the old school way before digital printing and machine assembly lines. Their typography is beautiful and all of the images in them were originally hand drawn.

I also took pictures of my grandparents when they were younger. I love these photos! (forgive the glair)

So I don't usually share stuff from work but I just made this postcard that I'm pretty proud of. Its to inform the students when check-ins are. I modeled it after old tickets. My typography is a little rusty so hopeufully I don't have any big NO-NOs that everyone can see but me ;) Enjoy!

Eye Candy

I came acrross this tonight while doing some design research- i thought it was pretty impressive! if you are in need for some SUPER cool eye candy (aka amazing graphic design) checck out this sight I stumbled across: GRAPHIC DESIGN

organs and stuff

So just to prove that I've been busy here are some images of my final projects for the semester! For any of you wondering about my organ donation survey I posted previously this was the end result of that.  I made an exhibit on Organ donation to create awarness and improve education on the subject.  Its a topic I've always felt very strongly about so I feel so grateful that I was able to help the cause in some way.

Some things I learned very quickly with this project:

1) vinyl was invented by satan

2) I will NEVER go into the vinyl business

3) I can't live with out vinyl

4) I remembered that I'm scared of heights- especially when I'm 3 stories up leaning off of a wobbly people-lifter...

And then for my 3D design class I remodeled the inside of a See's candy store with a 3D computer rendering program.  I was too cheap to buy a program so I just went with "Google sketch-up" (which is SUPER cool to play with if you have some spare time to kill!). I could have taken my model into Photoshop to make it look realistic like some of my classmates but I was just so burned out in the end that I just settled for this...

  

 

Design

So My sister Lyndsey is starting up her very own stationery blog/business and asked me a while back to design a header for her. I had NEVER designed anything for the internet before so I was a little worried it would come out stupid. Its taken awhile to get some kinks worked out but it is now up and running! check it out!

This goes out to all of my Graphic Design friends out there, or anyone else who obsesses about type =) my friend showed this to me and I just about fell out of my chair laughing! CAUTION: if you don't know your font types you wont get this video- so learn your type, cuz the world is just funnier if your smarter lol
