Getting Healthy

Winter semester just ended which means things in the Holdaway house are changing a bit. Jesse is now out of school for the summer and has already started this AMAZING job with a local lawn-care business that he is really excited about. He is still working on the Baja, its a dune buggie type car that he and other classmates are making in the SAE society, and he was actually made president of the project not too long ago. He will be going to washington state in June to race it in a nationwide university competition! But he is very excited to put the books down for a bit and just work, which also means he has a little more free time than during school.
I on the other hand start ANOTHER semester of school this next week. Its like my 6th or 7th semester STRAIGHT since I have been going to school year round since we got married- so I'm a tad burnt out..... but the only thing keeping me going is..... Its my LAST SEMESTER EVER!!! I turned in my application for graduation yesterday so if there aren't any hicups I will be graduating in July! I'm not too worried because I think my schedule is not going to be the intense so I think I will have some free time too.
So with all our free time we decided we need to take our health more seriously since we are bad and put it on the back burnner during school because we are so busy (not a good habit- I know). First of all I have almost completely switched our house to all-brown! (whole wheat pasta, bread, tortillas, and brown rice) We are trying to buy more fresh fruit and veggies and getting Jesse un-addicted to Dr. Pepper or soda in general. We also started taking Juice Plus! This is going to sound like a total crock but I swear its not!(I've done my homework on it) Juice Plus is fruits and vegtables in a pill form. Its not meant to satisfy or replace your need for eating real normal produce but it sort of fills in the gap of nutrition you might be lacking. Many universities and medical journals have done studies on it (including BYU) and have found very positive results
We have also begun using P90X- a high intensity work out you can do at home. We aren't doing the whole program, just the work outs but man is it kicking my trash! I wake up sore like every day! lol I totally recommend it.
Its been going pretty good so far- we are going to try to keep doing it all summer and hopefully we will stick to it and make an official new healthy lifestyle change for our family! cross your fingers for us!

Wow!! Way to be! You inspire me to be even better. I love using whole grains for things. We haven't started cooking with brown rice yet, but that's pretty much just cuz we have a bag of white rice that we don't want to be wasted. But I love eating whole wheat bread and tortillas. And good luck with your workouts! I've heard that they are insanely hard - but all the more reason to feel super accomplished, right?

Good for you! I can't wait to have the freedom of buying my own food again (since we are living with the in-laws at the moment. Although financially it is a HUGE blessing it will be nice to go back to running our own house). BTW, congratulations on being almost graduated!!
